About

My husband, Al, and I work together at Farmhaven. It started innocently enough, a daydream and occasional visits to farms. I thought I wanted goats, so he took me to a working goat farm. Milking goats have to be tended twice a day with another hour or two of additional clean up time. My children didn’t get this kind of attention, so I knew dairy goats were not for me but Al grew up spending summers on his grandparents’ farm in Randolph County, NC and he introduced me to other options. The idea of a farm stayed with us over the years; prompting composting, worm bins, an organic front yard garden, and eventually a career change. The occasional search became constant and in the summer of 2014 we found a beautiful old farm in Tobaccoville, NC.

Our friends and family laughed but supported us when we told them we wanted to be farmers. We want to feed people’s need for beauty and fresh, local food. This is unchartered territory for us. We have a lot to learn about farming and we want to do it naturally and sustainably, conserving and caring for the integrity of the soil, water, wildlife and community.
